All About Me
My Favorite FilmsGrowing up my family always bought goods a generation or two behind of what was actually selling in stores. In this case DVD's and Blue-rays were being marketed quite a bit but I was still watching movies from a VHS player on my CRT T.V. As the new movies came out they were being recorded for DVD and a 16:9 aspect ratio instead of the 4:3, because of that I often watched old animated films like Bambi, Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. It wasn't until much later that our TV broke and we had to get a new one, when we did get that new TV it also came with a DVD player on the side. One of the earliest movies I remember watching on DVD was the original Cars movie (made by Disney Pixar) I absolutely loved that movie and watched it more times than I can count. The movie was fantastic but what really sold my love for films were the advertisements you got before you watch the movie. My earliest memory of this is when I say a trailer for an animated film called Ponyo. The first time I saw this trailer I was amazed at how vibrant and fluid it looked. the colors popped more than what Disney uses and there an amazing art style where it would mimic the feel of watercolors. The animation was also very good, it had more action scenes and there looked to more than just a normal "boy meets girl" that Disney always chooses. Despite my excitement, I didn't get to watch this movie since it wasn't released in Canada yet, the only thing I could do was watch the stunning trailer over and over again. It wasn't until much later that I could my own iPod that could play MP4's that I actually watched the movie.

My Hobbies
Much like my media consumption my gaming was a generation or two behind. It wasn't until I broke my arm that I started playing video games but we can get back to that later. When I was small I would spend most my time outside like most people, either riding my bike at the local park trying to spot turtles, birds and ducks or playing basketball at school with my friends. Being a kid I didn't know what it meant to break a bone and didn't fear getting hurt because to me, at the time it didn't click that I would live with my injuries for the rest of my life. being smaller in age meant I was also physically smaller than I am now and because my bones and muscles were smaller than everyone else's they also broke faster. Long story short, I fell down, boke my elbow and got a huge wound on my left leg. because of my injuries I would need to stay home and try to recover but I was getting bored of watching the same movies over and over again. I begged my parents to get a Nintendo DS but we couldn't get one at the time so they bought me a cheap controller that has arcade games loaded onto it. You would plug this into the AV port in your TV and suddenly you can play Pac-Man, Space Invaders and DigDug and many other games I cant remember. Playing those endless arcade games sparked a new passion of mine: to beat my old score. I would play these games for countless hours and would beat my old score almost every time, eventually I got bored of repeating the same game mechanics over and over and had saved up enough money to buy a Nintendo Wii. The first games I ever got was Wii sports and boy was it a blast. I remember the night we got it so vividly, It was Christmas night and we had a family party at our old house. My Aunts, Uncles, grandma's and most of my immediate family were there, none of them played video games but they wanted to help me set the Wii so I could play. It was when we finally got the Wii running that I handed my uncle a controller and loaded up a bowling game, even though he never played video games he immediately knew how to play. It didn't take long for someone else to ask to play and that's how we got the whole family on the game. It was an amazing night, everyone was enjoying snacks as we handed the controller from one person to another to see who could the most pins down in a 100 pin game. Ididnt know that games were something that people could enjoy together since up until then every older person would scowl at me playing single player games from hours on end. It was a bonding experience with my family and the start of my gaming career
